Description
These evocative Projective Storytelling Cards provide a powerful starting point for therapeutic exploration with older children, adolescents and adults.
Each image presents an open-ended interpersonal or emotional situation, inviting the client to create their own story, interpretation or response. Because the images do not have a predetermined meaning, they can provide space for projection, imagination and personal meaning-making.
The cards can be used to explore themes such as relationships, attachment, connection, isolation, support, vulnerability, resilience, loss, boundaries, conflict, identity and emotional experiences. A therapist might ask what is happening in the picture, what the characters might be feeling or thinking, what happened before the scene, or what might happen next.
They can be particularly useful when a client finds direct questioning difficult. Talking about the characters and their stories can create a gentle therapeutic distance, allowing important material to emerge indirectly and at the client’s own pace.
The cards can be used individually, selected intuitively, arranged into a sequence, or combined to create a longer therapeutic narrative. They are especially suited to adolescent therapy, where clients may appreciate a less childlike and more sophisticated way of exploring complex emotional and relational themes.
An excellent resource for psychologists, play therapists, counsellors, social workers and other mental health professionals working with adolescents and adults.
Ideal for: Therapeutic storytelling • Projective-style exploration • Adolescent therapy • Child counselling • Emotional expression • Relationship exploration • Attachment themes • Identity • Boundaries • Loss and change • Resilience • Communication • Reflective discussion
